A digital performance where I invited my friend from China to touch my bre ath through speakers using online meeting application.
Inspired by Jane Bennet’s Vital Materialism and Donna Harraway’s cyborg manifesto, this work explore the blurring boundaries between Human and Technology, and explore an indifference, co-emerging assemblage of intimacy across Human/Non Human agencies. This work excavates the often ignored materialist encounters in digital communication, where digital omnipresence often isolates bodily interaction.

作者讓在國內的親友通過擴聲器感受本人的呼吸振動。
揚聲器發出的溫暖和震動無意中似乎在模仿生命形式的痕跡,這種特質啟發了我找到一種在與金屬機器互動的枯燥體驗中激發活力的方法。作為抵制在線媒體互動的類瀕死體驗的一種方式。當成象的自我保持著虛擬形象存在並同時隔離肉身的自我時,是否有可能找回這種在線行為的整體性,以使線上的體驗更加親密和栩栩如生? 要尋找生命力而不是瀕死狀態,恐怕沒有比感受心跳和呼吸更好的生活痕跡了。根據AndréLeroi-Gourhan的外部化理論,如工具是身體的延伸,則技術成為了我們的假肢,甚至使我們能夠在任何地方成為任何人。如果我們想像所有這些機器和媒體形式都是我們器官,感官和神經系統的一部分,那麼它就不會被推離物理空間而陷入虛擬數字領域的偽互動中,並因此擺脫數據通信中的“瀕死體驗”。

A performance where I have my hands on the speakers of my computer for an online tutorial session, in attempt for more intimate communications. This performance is an attempt to reclaim intimacy in on-line interaction.
While Internet becomes a medium that teleports or extend the human body to a digital space, in its simultaneity that obscure the experience of space and time, it strips away the livelihood of physical body by replacing its own in the virtual, creating a gap-relativity between the two. In Morioka Yoshimoto’s essay “Media and body”(2000) he describe each teleportation of the body for online media as small death each time, that puts the human being into a pending state of uncertainty. When trying to figuring out ways to relief this anxiety from “small death” experience, I decided to touch and feel the speakers that transmitt the life-trace others on the internet. The performance comes from impulse to reconcile the gap between the virtual and physical, it is me attempting to find direct contact with the virtual representational encounters on line. To have more intimate contact to the exteriorised bodies created by lifestream technology, in this case I took the warm speakers as the larynx of the others.

在一次線上課程中作者全程將雙手放在擴音器上進行感受。
互聯網雖然成為將人體傳送或擴展到數字空間的媒介,但同時又掩蓋了空間和時間的此在體驗,但數碼生成的替代性身軀通過在虛擬環境中代替人類自身而同時剝奪了身體的能動性,從而撕裂代表者和被代表者之間的共鳴性。在盛岡佳本(Morioka Yoshimoto)的論文“媒體與身體”(Media and body)(2000)中,他描述了每次在線媒體對身體的傳送都是一次小小的死亡,因為這使人類在新媒體中處於不確定的待決狀態。當試圖找出緩解這種不確定的待決狀態而產生的焦慮焦慮的方法時,我決定更原始的觸摸並感受到在線互動的人們的聲音。以原始的衝動調和虛擬和物理世界之間的差距,這是我試圖在網上互動時能夠得到更直接的聯繫。作為人類肉身的虛擬延伸我將溫暖發熱的揚聲器及其震動當作其他人的喉管來感受。
